MIAMI POST-GAME QUOTES
HEAD COACH LARRY COKER:
“It was a tremendous crowd in the Orange Bowl tonight, everything you dream of. I told our players I don’t know if we are going to win, but it’s just so great to be here.”
“Washington is a very talented football team, with great players like our team, but this was just our night. It’s down now to a one-game season, it’s a must-win in Blacksburg.”
“It’s hard not to talk of Roses, but we have to win at Virginia Tech and then we can talk Roses.”
“We played extremely well and extremely hard. We made great plays. Our defense was just swarming tonight, playing with athleticism and confidence and you could see it coming through, seeing them be able to pressure the quarterback and allowing our secondary to make plays. They just keep getting better and better.”
“We watched the Nebraska game and wondered how do you explain that? That’s just college football. Our players have a lot of pride and really want to see this thing through.”
“I think anytime that you have a goal-line stance is a big left. That defensive stop really sent a message.”
“Its so obvious how difficult it is to go undefeated in college football.”
“It’s been a great ride, but there’s been a lot of pressure too. We’re right in the hunt and right in the mix and we know we’re going to be there, but you have to win. Our players have handled the pressure beautifully.”
QUARTERBACK KEN DORSEY:
“We had a great game plan. We came out ready to play and that was the important thing. We had a short field all night. Anytime you’re defense is playing that well, you are going to be on the winning end of a lot of those game.”
“The most motivation we have is we saw Nebraska lose to Colorado and that shows you can lose to anyone, that’s all the motivation you need.”
“No matter what happens, we want to be in Pasadena and we have to win next week to get there. It doesn’t matter who we play, we just want to get there.”
ON THE DEFENSE:”They are so talented and have a great game plan each week. It’s a great compliment between our offense and defense.”
WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY
POST -GAME QUOTES
QUARTERBACK CODY PICKETT:
“I forced balls when I shouldn’t have. There were third downs where I threw a pick and I should’ve just sat on it and we could’ve punted for field position, but I tried to force it in there. I did that way too many times today.”
“Their front four on defense played really well. They could put pressure on just rushing four and their cover guys are really good. They have a great secondary.”
“Take nothing away from them, they played great tonight – but we added to it, we played terrible.”
“I feel really bad for the seniors, we wanted to win this game for them. It’s a loss, but it’s a great learning experience. You come play the No. 1 team in the country and get beat – guys will take this away and we’ll be more prepared for the next time.”
WIDE RECEIVER REGGIE WILLIAMS:
ON PLAYING AT OB:
“The fans are crazy, they talk a lot of smack. It was a loud stadium similar to ours in terms of crowd noise.”
ON PHYSICAL PLAY OF UM”They tried to get in our face and jam us. The receivers were getting open but he (Pickett) just couldn’t get the ball to us. He was getting rushed.”
ED REED:
“We had lots of support tonight and we knew lots of people were looking forward to the game as we were. We practiced all week to go out and dominate and we did that tonight. We came out and did our responsibilities. We had lots of guys coming up with balls.”
ON FINAL GAME at OB:
“It was a great feeling and I didn’t want to come off the field. It’s a moment I’ll cherish.”
CLINTON PORTIS:
ON HIS PERFORMANCE:
“I scored three touchdowns and had a good game tonight. It’s a great feeling. We got the quest alive. We got to go to Blacksburg and get the job done.”
ON TEAM PERFORMANCE:
“We’ve been playing real well. We came out tonight and exercised our game plan, but we have one more game to get where we want to go. We have to go out and get it.”
“When the defense scores like they do and the special teams score like they do, the offense doesn’t have to do too much. They always put our offense in position to put points on the board.”
ON BOWL POSSIBILITIES:
“We’re smelling Blacksburg, it’s not about the roses. We have to go out and beat Virginia Tech before we can smell the roses.”
