MIAMI (AP) – Darius Rice scored 15 of his team-high 20 points in the secondhalf to lead the Miami Hurricanes to a 79-69 win over Lafayette on Saturday.
Miami (4-0) is off to its best start since the 1997-98 season.
The Hurricanes took a 38-30 halftime lead, but the Leopards (1-2) cut it toone point with a 7-0 run to start the second half.
Miami then came back with a 21-1 run, led by Rice’s three 3-point shots.Rice hit 5-of-7 3-pointers in the second half, after not hitting any in thefirst half.
The Hurricanes shot 62 percent from behind the 3-point arc in the secondhalf after only connecting on 1-of-6 in the first half.
Shooting guard Marcus Barnes, who was benched in the first half after beinglate to practice this week, also was instrumental in Miami’s early second halfrun. Barnes hit two key three-pointers and finished with 12 points in 13minutes.
Michael Simmons, who started in place of Barnes, scored 11 points, and JamesJones added 10 for Miami. Winston Davis led the Leopards with 15 points.
