UM Hoops Signs Shooting Guard
Nov. 15, 2001
Head coach Perry Clark announces the signing of shooting guard Robert Hite (Cincinnati, OH) to a national letter of intent to attend the University of Miami next fall. Hite chose Miami over a number of schools including Tennessee, Dayton, Georgetown and Xavier.
“Robert Hite is the type of player I like to have on my basketball,” said Clark. “He is a extremely versatile. Robert is a tremendous scorer who has the ability to manufacture shots when the offense breaks down. He also defends extremely well and can really rebound the basketball. But what I like most is his competitive spirit. He brings the type of competitiveness you need to be successful in the BIG EAST.”
Hite (6-2, 185), a first-team All-State selection, averaged 18 points, six rebounds, four assists and five steals as a junior in leading Winton Woods High School to a 21-1 record and a trip to the Section Championship game.
“I felt very comfortable during my visit to Miami,” said Hite. “It is a great academic institution and a program on the rise. I really feel I can make a difference and help the program continue to grow.”
Hite is ranked as the No. 50 prospect in the nation by CNN-SI and has started at shooting guard since his freshman season. Last season he was named team and league MVP.A great all-around athlete, Hite also lettered in track where he qualified for the state finals as a member of the 4×100-meter relay.
“Robert (Hite) is a very explosive and athletic player,” says Winton Woods head coach Gary Lumpkin. “He is the complete package. Not only is he a very good offensive player but he is a great defender who does all the little things that don’t show up in the box score. Robert doesn’t have to score to control the game, he can beat you in many different ways.”
