Men's Hoops Downs LA City Stars

Coral Gables, FL – Junior forward James Jones (Miami American) poured in a game-high 19 points to lead the University of Miami men’s basketball team to a 107-72 exhibition game victory over L.A. City Stars at the Knight Sports Complex in Coral Gables, FL.
Jelani Janisse, a 2000 graduate of Kansas, led the L.A. City Stars with 17 points.
Other Hurricanes in double-figures included sophomore guard Marcus Barnes (14 points), senior center Elton Tyler (13 points) and sophomore forward Darius Rice (11 points). Senior guard John Salmons had a strong all-around game with eight points, six rebounds, six assists and two steals.
Miami jumped out to a 43-32 lead at halftime despite shooting just 14-36 (.389) from the field. Miami’s defense dominated the half forcing 15 first-half turnovers and holding the Stars to 10 field goals on 29 attempts (34.5 percent).
The Hurricanes then heated up in the second-half shooting a blistering 25-37 (.676) from the field and scoring 64 points. Miami out-rebounded the Stars, 47-35, for the game including 13 offensive rebounds.
Overall the Hurricanes connected on 39-73 (.534) from the field while holding the LA City Stars to just 23-64 (.359) shooting.
Miami opens the regular-season on November 18 at the Virgin Islands Paradise Jam against Eastern Michigan. The Hurricanes open their home schedule on November 24 at 3 p.m. against Lafayette at Miami Arena.
