Buchanon Earns Big East Honor

Providence, R.I. – Miami cornerback/punt returner Phillip Buchanon has earned Special Teams Player of the Week in the BIG EAST Conference for his performance in Saturday’s victory over Temple at the Orange Bowl, the league announced Monday.
Buchanon (Fort Myers, Fla.) turned in a solid special teams performance in Miami’s 38-0 victory over Temple. The senior returned his second punt for a touchdown this season, running one back 52 yards for the score in the third quarter. He finished with 109 yards on three returns, averaging 36.3 yards. Buchanon leads the BIG EAST in punt returns with an 18.9-yard average, ranking second in NCAA Division IA. This is Buchanon’s second BIG EAST Special Teams Player of the Week honor. He also earned the award after Miami’s win over Rutgers on Sept. 8.
