Coral Gables, FL – Senior guard John Salmons (Philadelphia, PA) poured in a game-high 19 points to lead the University of Miami men’s basketball team to a 78-64 victory over Angola Select in an exhibition game held at the Knight Sports Complex in Coral Gables, FL.

Salmons, a third-team All-BIG EAST selection last season, also recorded team-highs in assists (6) and steals (4), and added six rebounds. Junior forward James Jones (Miami American) scored 18 points while sophomore guard Marcus Barnes added 13.

Miami jumped out to 17-2 lead to open the game and never looked back. Sophomore forward Darius Rice (Jackson, MS) led Miami with 11 points, on 5-of-7 shooting from the field, and seven rebounds in the opening half. Rice did not score in the second half but finished with a game-high nine rebounds.

The Hurricanes, who led 44-25 at the break, shot a blistering 58 percent (18-31) in the first half while holding Angola to a miniscule 28 percent (7-25).

Miami concludes its preseason schedule against the LA City Stars on Saturday, November 10 at the Knight Sports Complex in Coral Gables. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and admission is free.
