Miami Football Practice Report
Nov. 1, 2001
CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – With the close of Thursday’s practice, the top-ranked Miami Hurricanes (6-0 overall, 3-0 in the BIG EAST) reached the culmination of their preparations for their upcoming game with the Temple Owls (2-5, 1-3). Miami and Temple meet for the 11th time on Saturday with Miami holding a 9-1 edge in the series that dates back to 1930.
Miami worked out for 90 minutes in shorts and shells on the Greentree Practice Fields. The Hurricanes, who will try to extend the nation’s longest winning streak on Saturday (16 games), enter the Temple game ready for the stretch drive of the season, according to head coach Larry Coker.
“I think we’re ready,” Coker said after the practice. “We’ve got some people banged up, but the attitude of the team is good and we’ve had a solid week of practice. We’re looking forward to getting into a routine of playing each Saturday. To this point, we’ve only had a couple of occasions in which we’ve played on successive Saturdays. I’m hoping that our stretch run here will allow us to get in more of a rhythm, especially with the quality of the opponents we have remaining on our schedule.”
Miami’s five remaining opponents – Temple (2-5), Boston College (6-2), Syracuse (7-2), Washington (6-1) and Virginia Tech (6-1) – have a combined won-loss record of 27-11 so far this season. Three of the five remaining foes – Syracuse (19th), Washington (11th) and Virginia Tech (12th) – are currently ranked in the Associated Press Top 25 and Boston College is receiving votes.
The Miami-Temple game will be televised by ESPN Regional Television and can be seen locally on WFOR-TV (Channel 4) in the Miami/Fort Lauderdale area.
