Oct. 2, 2001

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – – With their home game against Troy State just four days off, the top-ranked Miami Hurricanes (ranked No. 1 by Associated Press and No. 1 in the ESPN/USA Today coaches’ poll) practiced for two hours in full pads on Tuesday afternoon at the Greentree Practice Fields on the UM campus to begin preparations for their upcoming clash.

The Hurricanes and Trojans clash Saturday at Noon Eastern Time at the Orange Bowl in a game that will be televised by ESPN Regional.

“This was an excellent day of practice,” said Hurricanes head coach Larry Coker. “The weather was perfect. The players were focused, and we’re in good health and a good frame of mind. We need to keep this going because we have a tough stretch ahead of us.”

The only player of prominence to miss practice was middle linebacker D.J. Williams, who missed the workout while recovering from a high ankle sprain against Pittsburgh. Williams remains questionable for the Troy State game.
