Providence, R.I. – – Miami running back CLINTON PORTIS and Syracuse quarterback TROY NUNES have been named BIG EAST Offensive Players of the Week, the league announced. Boston College linebacker SCOTT BRADLEY and Virginia Tech rover KEVIN McCADAM share defensive accolades, while West Virginia kick returner SHAWN TERRY captured Special Teams Player of the Week.
Portis (Gainesville, Fla.) recorded a career-high three rushing touchdowns in Miami’s 43-21 win at Pittsburgh on Thursday. The junior running back ran for 131 yards on 24 carries, as the Hurricanes gained 243 yards on the ground. He also had two receptions for 25 yards. It was the eighth 100-yard game of Portis’ career.
Nunes (Butler, Pa.) threw for four touchdowns in the Orangemen’s 44-30 victory over East Carolina. The junior quarterback completed 17-of-27 passes for 296 yards, connecting on scoring tosses of 38, four, three and 39 yards. He also rushed for 18 yards. It is the first time since 1998 (Donovan McNabb vs. Cincinnati) that an SU signal-caller threw for four TDs in a game.
Bradley (Hanover, Mass.) led the BC defense with a 27-yard interception return for a touchdown in the Eagles’ 31-10 win over Army. The senior linebacker recorded the second pickoff and first score of his career, adding six tackles (one for loss), one pass break-up and one quarterback hurry.
McCadam (Lakeside, Calif.) returned an interception 69 yards for a touchdown in the 46-14 Hokie victory over Central Florida. It was the first career touchdown for the senior rover, as he became the first Tech player since 1998 (Jamel Smith, 98 yards vs. Rutgers) to return a pickoff for a score. McAdam also had four tackles (three solo) and one pass break-up.
Terry (Homestead, Fla.) earns a second straight special teams honor after his performance in West Virginia’s 32-20 loss at Maryland. The senior kick returner had the second 100-yard kick return for a touchdown of his career, the seventh in BIG EAST history. He finished with three returns for 147 yards (49.0 avg.) and now ranks fourth nationally in kick return yards witha 34.2 average.
