Hurricanes Announce 2001-02 Men's Basketball Schedule

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami athletic director Paul Dee and head basketball coach Perry Clark announce the Hurricanes 2001-02 men’s basketball schedule.
The schedule includes 13 games against teams that participated in post-season play a year ago including eight against teams that advanced to the 2001 NCAA Basketball Championship.
Miami’s schedule features 15 games at Miami Arena including eight BIG EAST battles — against Pittsburgh (Jan. 15), Providence (Jan. 19), Villanova (Jan. 24), Boston College (Jan. 29), Connecticut (Feb. 2), St. John’s (Feb. 13), Notre Dame (Feb. 23) and Virginia Tech (Mar. 2).
Miami opens its schedule on the road at the Virgin Islands Invitational (Nov. 16-21). The tournament boasts a strong field including Alabama-Birmingham, Clemson, Eastern Michigan, La Salle and Morris Brown.
The Hurricanes open their home schedule on Nov. 24 versus Lafayette at the Miami Arena. The Hurricanes open their BIG EAST Conference schedule at Georgetown on Jan. 2. Miami’s BIG EAST home opener will be on Jan. 15 versus Pittsburgh.
On Dec. 16 the Hurricanes will face Big 10 power Indiana in the HIP Health Plan Orange Bowl Basketball Classic at the American Airlines Arena in Miami, FL. The Hurricanes will also travel to New Orleans to face SEC standout LSU at the Sugar Bowl Basketball Classic.
“This is an extremely challenging schedule,” said head coach Perry Clark. “Playing such established programs as Indiana, Charlotte, LSU and Texas A&M presents a lot of opportunities and will help prepare us for our difficult league schedule.”
