Hurricanes Sign Point Guard

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Head coach Perry Clark announces the signing ofpoint guard Kahleaf Watson (Dyke, Va.) to a national letter of intent toattend the University of Miami this fall. Watson selected Miami over anumber of schools including Providence, Rutgers and Western Kentucky.

“Watson is a tremendous athlete with great speed and will help usextend our pressure defensively,” said Clark. “He is a quality young man,with a strong work ethic, and is the type of player that has helped Miamibecome one of the best defensive teams in the nation.”

Watson (6-2, 185) averaged 18.1 points, 4.5 assists, 3.5 reboundsand 3.0 steals per game last season in leading Blue Ridge High School to a25-7 record and its second consecutive Virginia Independent School Statetitle.

“Kahleaf is a great athlete and goes to the rim strong,” said BlueRidge head coach Bill Ramsey. “He is a vocal leader on the floor and atenacious defender.”

Watson, who was named first team All-State last season in bothbasketball and football by the Virginia Independent School Association, isthe third player to sign a national letter of intent with the Hurricanesjoining 6-8 forward Wil Frisby (New York, N.Y.) and 6-9 forward/center RafaelBerumen (Simi Valley, Calif.).
