UM Sprint Medley Relay Sets School Record

Philadelphia, PA – The University of Miami sprint medley relay of freshman Kitoya Carter (Miami Northwestern), sophomore Jamillah Wade (Philadelphia, PA), sophomore Saraque Whittaker (Ft. Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas) and senior All-American Natalie Watson (Coral Spings) finished third with a school-record time of 3:48.23 at the 107th Penn Relays Carnival in Philadelphia, PA.

Miami, which bettered the old mark of 3:51.23 by three seconds, has now set a new record in the event in three consecutive meets. Carter, Wade, Whittaker and Watson originally set the record on March 30 at the Florida Relays and then established a new record at the Texas Relays on April 6.

In the triple jump final senior Antonnikka Owens (Orlando, FL) and junior All-American Kareen Clarke (Lithonic, GA) finished fifth and sixth respectively. Owens posted a mark of 12.78 meters (41-11.25) while Clarke recorded a leap of 12.72 meters (41-08.75).

Miami concludes competition on Saturday with the 4×400-meter relay final beginning at 5:55 p.m. Miami’s relay, ranked 11th in the nation, will face some of the country’s best in the final. Seven of the eight qualifiers hold national rankings including No. 1 Texas, No. 2 South Carolina, No. 3 Florida, No. 4 Clemson, No. 12 LSU and No. 21 Seton Hall.
