Madere Wins Discus For Second Straight Week

Gainesville, FL – University of Miami freshman Dore Madere (Dallas, TX) won the discus with a school-record toss of 48.14 meters (157-11.00) to highlight Friday’s competition at the 58th Coca-Cola Florida Relays in Gainesville, FL.
Madere has now own the discus in two consecutive meets. Madere took first in the event at last weekend’s FIU Invitational. Madere broke the old mark of 47.70 meters (156-06) set by Jill Lackovich in 1996.
The Hurricanes also established a new school-record in the sprint medley relay as freshman Kitoya Carter (Miami Northwestern), sophomores Jamillah Wade (Philadelphia, PA) and Saraque Whittaker (Ft. Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas), and senior Natalie Watson (Coral Springs) finished third in a time of 3:51.37.
Also running well on Friday was junior Jenise Winston (League City, TX) who was the top collegiate finisher in the 400-meters. Winston recorded a time of 54.47 to establish a new personal record.
Freshman Jennifer Penrose also stood out recording a second-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 14.33 meters (47-00.25).
