Sept. 20, 2000

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami Hurricanes went through a rugged two hours of football practice Wednesday afternoon at the Greentree Practice Fields on the UM campus, continuing preparations for Miami’s Big East Conference opener against West Virginia Saturday afternoon at Morgantown, WV.

“It was a good day of practice,” said head coach Butch Davis. “We’re getting a lot done this week, trying to improve across the board because we know we’ve got a tough test ahead of us this Saturday.”

Addressing questions from the news media regarding the Hurricanes’ second consecutive battle in front of a hostile crowd, Davis referred to this Saturday’s contest as an opportunity for his team to compete in what he describes as one of college football’s finest game day atmospheres.

“It’s a real challenge for us, but also something we’re very excited about,” Davis said. “West Virginia fans are among the most loyal in college football. It’s always one of the most exciting Saturdays of the season when we visit Morgantown.”

Practice continues Thursday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. All practices are closed to the public. The Hurricanes depart for Morgantown Friday afternoon via chartered jet.
