Rainy Practice Begins West Virginia Game Week

Sept. 19, 2000

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami Hurricanes practiced for two hours in full pads amidst rain showers Tuesday afternoon at the Greentree Practice Fields on the UM campus. The workout marked the continuation of preparations for Miami’s Big East Conference opener against West Virginia Saturday afternoon at Morgantown, WV.

“We had a very good practice today,” said head coach Butch Davis. “I think we’re on schedule with our preparations. We’ve worked extensively on West Virginia in film study and we put it into practice today on the field. I’ve been very encouraged by the attitude and the approach our players are taking.”

The Hurricanes (1-1) are looking to bounce back from a loss at Washington while the unbeaten Mountaineers (2-0) enter the game fresh off a defeat of Maryland last Saturday. The road game is UM’s second of a three-game road swing that completes September action.

“We’ll focus on the execution of the game plan, instead of worrying about the crowd,” Davis said. “West Virginia has great fans and we know they will provide an outstanding college atmosphere. It will be a test for us, but I’m confident our players will stay focused on the task at hand.”

Practice continues Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. All practices are closed to the public. For ticket information concerning Hurricanes football, contact the UM Ticket Office at (305) 284-2263 or 1-800-GO-CANES. Tickets may also be ordered online at www.hurricanesports.com.
