Hurricanes Beat The Weather In Monday Practice

Aug. 28, 2000

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami Hurricanes practiced for two hours under cloudy skies Monday afternoon at the Greentree Practice Field and the team emerged one day closer to the 2000 season opener with McNeese State, now just three days away.

“We started a bit early because the weather forecast predicted some heavy weather and it looks like we got through it alright,” said Hurricanes’ head coach Butch Davis. “We’ve really maintained our focus. We’re trying to go into the ballgame with the same intensity and focus as any other game.”

The Hurricanes, ranked 5th by the Associated Press and 6th in the latest ESPN/USA Today rankings, are looking to 13th season-opening victory in their last 15 extending to 1986. Overall, Miami is 49-24-1 (.650) in season openers and 34-13-1 (.713) in season openers played at the Orange Bowl.

The Hurricanes open the 2000 season Thursday, Aug. 31, against McNeese State at the Orange Bowl with kickoff slated for 7:30 p.m.

Practice continues Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. All practices are closed to the public. For ticket information for Hurricanes football, contact the UM Ticket Office at (305) 284-2263 or 1-800-GO-CANES. Tickets may also be ordered online at www.hurricanesports.com.
