Moss And Wayne Named To Biletnikoff Award "Watch List"

Aug. 17, 2000

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – Two University of Miami Hurricanes, Santana Moss and Reggie Wayne, have been named to the “Watch List” of 35 nominees for the 2000 Biletnikoff Award’s selection committee honoring college football’s best receiver.

Miami is one of only three schools (along with Kansas State and UCLA) to have more than one player selected for the list. The two seniors were instrumental in Miami’s wide receivers corps being rated the nation’s best by The Sporting News in the publication’s preseason position ratings.

The Biletnikoff Award, named for former Florida State and Oakland Raiders star Fred Biletnikoff, is presented by the Tallahassee (Fla.) Quarterback Club. Begun in 1994, the winner of the Biletnikoff Award is determined by a voted of each NCAA Division I-A head football coach and each NCAA Division I-A sports information director.

Moss, a senior from Miami, Fla., has caught 98 passes for 1,798 yards in his UM career (just 626 yards shy of Michael Irvin’s UM career receiving yards mark) with 14 touchdowns and is looking to follow up an impressive junior season in which he caught 54 passes for 899 yards and six touchdowns. Moss’s career touchdowns total ranks him sixth nationally among returning players.

Wayne, a senior from Marrero, La., caught 40 passes for 486 yards (12.1 avg.) and four touchdowns last season. He currently ranks third on the UM career receptions list with 130 and needs just 15 catches this season to end his collegiate career as the most prolific receiver in Hurricanes history. Wayne’s 1,755 yards receiving for his career leaves him just 699 short of the UM school career receiving yards mark and his 130 catches ranks eighth nationally among returning players.
