Dorsey Earns Praise In Hurricanes Practice

Aug. 16, 2000

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami Hurricanes, ranked 5th by Associated Press and 6th in the ESPN/USA Today preseason rankings, completed their seventh day of two-a-day football practices with a pair of two-hour workouts Wednesday at the Greentree Practice Field on the UM campus.

The Hurricanes spent the final stages of both practices working on their two-minute offense as the team enters the second half of two-a-days. Runningback Najeh Davenport suited up for both practices, but was limited in his activity after suffering from dizziness from a hit sustained in Tuesday’s scrimmage. Receiver Santana Moss returned to limited work after a sore hamstring limited his activity earlier this week.

“We closed practice with a period where we run 20 or 24 plays as a team, giving ourselves opportunities to work on our two-minute offense,” said head coach Butch Davis. “Ken Dorsey’s poise with the first group was very evident. There will be some negative plays at times, but his coordination of getting players to the line and communicating the audibles is a huge learning experience. Something new always comes up in those drills. He’s improving in that aspect.”

Two-a-day practices will continue Thursday with sessions slated for 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Workouts are closed to the public.
