July 30, 2000

West Palm Beach, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – A crowd of more than 3,000 loyal Hurricanes fans greeted UM head football coach Butch Davis and members of the University of Miami football Sunday afternoon as the team took part in CanesFest 2000 at the South Florida Fairgrounds in West Palm Beach.

The event, hosted by the West Palm Beach chapter of the Hurricane Club, featured interactive games for kids, player autographs sessions, player contests, auction items, Sebastian the Ibis, and the University of Miami Cheerleaders.

“The excitement and anticipation for this season is obvious,” said Davis. “The two CanesFests we had this weekend were the most well-attended I can recall and, certainly, the crowds are the most enthusiastic of any in the last few years. That excitement rubs off on the coaching staff and the players.”

More than 8,000 Hurricanes fans attended the two CanesFests over the weekend. Saturday afternoon in Fort Lauderdale, a crowd of 5,000 attended the Broward County CanesFest at the Broward County Convention Center.

Miami kicks off the 2000 season on August 31 against McNeese State at the Orange Bowl. For ticket information contact the Hurricane Ticket Office at (305) 284-CANES in Dade or 1-800-GO-CANES.
