Hurricane Football Prepares for CanesFest

March 29, 2000

CORAL GABLES, FL – The University of Miami football team continued spring practice, with a two hour practice in helmets and shoulder pads, at the Greentree Practice Facility on the UM campus.

Following pre-practice warm-ups, the team broke off into the offense and defense and worked on their formations and plays. After the offensive and defensive workouts, the team separated into their respective position groups to work on fundamental drills. The practice ended with an 11-on-11 drill.

After practice, head coach Butch Davis spoke about how injuries can create opportunities for other players.

“Anytime that someone get injured, it’s an opportunity for someone else. If they seize that opportunity to get more repetitions and more plays they can capture a coach’s attention and that creates more of an opportunity for them to play.”

Coach Davis then discussed how he felt Aaron Moser would fit in after switching from wide receiver to defensive back this spring.

“It has been a very positive move for Aaron. He is clearly one of the best special team players we have, so that role won’t change for him. Moving him to defense gives him a chance to get involved in some of the nickel packages and to play some as a safety.”

The Hurricanes will resume practice on Thursday, March 30 at 3:00 p.m. at the Greentree Practice Facility on the Coral Gables Campus.

Spring Practice will conclude with CanesFest and the annual Spring Game at the Orange Bowl on Saturday, April 8. This year’s CanesFest will feature the unveiling of the Hurricanes new uniforms, logos and designs for the 2000 season. Events for CanesFest will include season-ticket select-a-seat, “Ask the Coach” session, Fun Zone interactive area and an autograph session following the game with Hurricane players and coaches.
