Football Returns To The Superdome For Practice

Dec. 28, 2000

New Orleans, La. (www.hurricanesports.com) — The University of Miami Hurricanes returned to the Louisiana Superdome Thursday afternoon for a two-hour full pad practice in preparation for the upcoming Nokia Sugar Bowl against No. 7 Florida Gators.

Following practice, the Sugar Bowl committee hosted a cajun-style dinner feast for the players and coaches at the Superdome.

The team followed dinner by going to the Sugar Bowl Basketball Tournament, featuring the Tulane Green Wave and the Florida Gators men’s basketball team.

All-BIG EAST Conference tight end Jeremy Shockey reported to New Orleans late Wednesday evening to complete the entire team party. Shockey was unable to leave his home in Oklahoma to make the trip due to inclement weather. Dangerous travel conditions caused by severe winter weather prevented Shockey from making a flight or driving down from his hometown of Ada, Oklahoma.

Miami and Florida will meet in the Superdome at 8 p.m. Eastern Time on Tuesday, January 2, 2001, with a possible national title on the line for the Hurricanes. The game will be televised live by ABC and can be heard on ESPN Radio and via the Miami Hurricanes Network flagship station on WQAM (560 AM) radio in the Miami area.
