Hurricanes Break Away After Half, Beat Lehigh By 19

MIAMI (AP) – John Salmons scored 22 points and Darius Rice added 11 as theMiami Hurricanes broke open a close game at halftime Wednesday to beat Lehigh71-52.
Miami (7-3) scored the last four points of the first half and the firsteight of the second to take a 42-30 lead. The Mountain Hawks (5-5) went 5:43without a point during that span.
Miami’s defense forced Lehigh into 27 turnovers, including 11 by ZlatkoSavovic.
Miami led by as much as 23 points three different times and shot 52 percentfrom the field. The Hurricanes kept the Mountain Hawks to 12 points below theirseason scoring average.
Salmons, who scored 16 points in the first half, was 10-for-14 from thefield.
Lehigh, 0-6 against Big East Conference schools since 1990, hung tough in afirst half that featured six lead changes. Miami’s widest margin in the openinghalf was six points, but the Mountain Hawks used a 10-2 run to take a 22-20lead, capped by a pair of Scott Taylor free throws.
Alan Goff led Lehigh with 10 points. His basket with 1:15 left in the firsthalf pulled the Mountain Hawks into a 30-30 tie.
Lehigh held a 16-11 rebounding advantage against the bigger Hurricanes inthe first half, during which the Mountain Hawks’ Matt Logie scored all nine ofhis points.
