Miami Football Practice Report

Dec. 20, 2000

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – A 90-minute practice featuring full contact at game speeds included a little bit of everything – even piped-in noise – as the Miami Hurricanes reached the middle of the work week at the Greentree Practice Fields on the University of Miami campus.

“We decided to bring in the loud speakers today and simulate some crowd noise since we’ll be playing in a domed stadium,” said head coach Butch Davis. “It helps us prepare for one of the unique features of an indoor stadium, where a crowd can really affect what you try to do offensively and defensively. We’re having a good week of work and I’m pleased with the focus and the effort the guys are giving.”

With temperatures in the low 50’s, the Hurricanes practiced under sunny skies in the coldest conditions they’ve worked under this year. Miami expects more of the same in Thursday’s practice, which has been moved to the morning, as temperatures in South Florida are expected to dip into the 30’s overnight.

Miami takes on Florida in the Nokia Sugar Bowl on January 2, 2001, at the Superdome in New Orleans in a game that marks the 50th time that Miami and Florida will meet in football. The Hurricanes continue practice Thursday at 10 a.m. at Greentree. All practices are closed to the public.
