Coral Gables, FL – Junior guard John Salmons (Philadelphia, PA) scored a team-high 13 points to lead the University of Miami to a 60-36 exhibition game victory over Club Pinheiros from Brazil at the Knight Sports Complex in Coral Gables, FL.

Emerson Garcia led Club Pinheiros with 16 points.

The Hurricanes jumped out to a 24-8 lead in the first half and never looked back. The Hurricanes shot just 22-60 (.367) from the field but made up for the poor shooting night with pressure defense that forced 29 turnovers including 13 steals.

Senior Dwayne Wimbley (Ft. Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas) played well recording eight points and a team-best eight rebounds. Sophomore forward James Jones (Miami American) added nine points four rebounds and two blocks.

The game marked the debut of several Hurricane freshman including McDonald’s All-American Darius Rice (Jackson, MS). Rice played a team-high 24 minutes off the bench and recorded eight points, six rebounds and a team-high four assists.

Freshman center Reo Logan (Country Club Hills, IL) also looked good posting eight points, hitting 4-of-7 from the floor, and four rebounds in 14 minutes. Redshirt freshman Rodrigue Djahue (Miami Northwest Christian Academy) saw 18 minutes of action and connected of 3-of-6 from the floor for a total of six points.

The Hurricanes return to action on November 13 when they face Global Sports at 7:00 p.m. in the Knight Sports Complex in their final exhibition game. Admission is free.

Miami opens its regular season schedule on the road against Florida Atlantic on November 18 before returning home for its home opener against Columbia on November 21 at Miami Arena.
