UM Soccer Downs Rutgers 2-1

CORAL GABLES, Fla.–Freshman Mary Luke (Ft. Pierce, Fla.) scored the game winning goal in the 2-1 win over Rutgers Friday night at Cobb Stadium.
Miami improves to 8-8-1 overall, while Rutgers falls to 8-8-2 overall.
With the win over the Scarlet Knights the Hurricanes are now 2-0-1 versus the Mid-Atlantic division of the BIG EAST conference.
“This was a great win,” said head coach Jim Blankenship. “We played really hard the second half to keep the momentum and we ended up with a great result.”
Luke’s game-winning goal is the second game winner of her career and her third goal scored this season. Lisa Gomez (Boca Raton, Fla.) assisted the game-winning goal at 68:30.
Miami scored first at 9:17 on an unassisted goal by Alexis MacKenzie (Plantation, Fla.).
Rutgers scored with six seconds remaining in the second half at 44:54 on a goal by Keri Lages.
The Hurricanes played great defense the second half allowing the Scarlet Knights only four shots.
Miami had 13 shots, compared to eight for Rutgers.
Goalkeeper Elizabeth Swinson (Boca Raton, Fla.) made four saves in the winning effort.
Miami now leads the all-time series with Rutgers 1-0.
The Hurricanes are back in action Sunday at 1 p.m. at Cobb Stadium playing host to another Mid-Atlantic BIG EAST opponent Georgetown. This will be the first meeting between the Hurricanes and the Hoyas. Admission is free.
