Hurricanes Prep For Temple
Oct. 19, 2000
CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – The Miami Hurricanes continued preparations for the resumption of BIG EAST football action as they practiced for 90 minutes in sunny weather at the Greentree Practice Field on the UM campus. The Hurricanes (4-1 overall, 2-0 in the BIG EAST) worked in shorts and shells (without full pads) in preparation for their game with the Temple Owls, who stand 4-3 overall this season and are 1-2 in BIG EAST play.
“It’s been a good week of work,” said head coach Butch Davis. “We decided to ease up on the contact today with so many people banged up. We just concentrated on execution and fundamentals today. It looks like we’re as ready as we can be at this stage.”
Several key players missed practice, including starting defensive tackle Damione Lewis (foot) and starting cornerback Leonard Myers (foot). Also missing practice were defensive lineman Quincy Hipps (ankle) and defensive end Jevon Rhodes (foot). “Sure it’s a concern,” Davis said of the injuries. “It’s forced us to make plenty of adjustments. But we’ll go with whomever is healthy and approach it with the right attitude.”
Miami’s game against Temple will be televised live by WPLG-TV Channel 10 on the BIG EAST network beginning at Noon Eastern Time. The Hurricanes have a short practice Friday afternoon at Greentree before departing for Philadelphia later in the day. All practices are closed to the public.
