Miami ranked 5th In Coaches Poll, 4th by AP

Oct. 15, 2000

Coral Gables, FL (www.hurricanesports.com) – The Miami Hurricanes crept one step up the rankings in one national college football poll on Sunday, but held steady in another ranking as the Hurricanes enjoyed a weekend off while the Oklahoma Sooners provided the biggest movement in the rankings.

Miami maintained its 4th position in the Associated Press ranking as news media from across the nation kept the Hurricanes in their spot while Nebraska remained atop the rankings. Miami’s BIG EAST rival, Virginia Tech, moved from third to second by virtue of Oklahoma’s 41-31 upset of previously second-ranked Kansas State while the Sooners themselves leaped five spots in the rankings. OU’s win garnered the Sooners four first–place votes and enabled a jump from eighth in last week’s AP poll.

Miami rose from sixth to fifth in the USA Today/ESPN rankings. Nebraska also led the way in the Coaches poll as the Huskers tightened their hold on the top spot. Virginia Tech also rose to second in that survey while Clemson rose from fourth to third with Oklahoma jumping from eighth to fourth in that poll.

The complete rankings follow.
