UM Soccer Downs Villanova 2-1

CORAL GABLES, Fla.–Jenny Sanchez (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) assisted in both goals, including the game winning goal for the University of Miami women’s soccer team as they downed Villanova 2-1 Friday afternoon in Villanova, Penn.

Miami improves to 7-8 on the season, while Villanova drops to 8-8.

The Hurricanes snapped a five-match losing streak with the win over the Wildcats.

“This was a great overall team effort,” said head coach Jim Blankenship. “I am very pleased with the win, our players played very hard and came out on top.”

Jordan Sims (Bradenton, Fla.) scored the first goal for UM at 8:10 on the assist from Sanchez. Sims scored the goal on a 30-yard kick right into the top of the box over the goalkeeper’s head.

Caryn Blood (Howell, N.J.) scored the second goal for UM at 35:00 on the assist from Sanchez, putting UM up 2-0 at halftime.

The Wildcats managed to score one goal at 80:37, as Kelly Stewart scored a goal while UM goalkeeper Elizabeth Swinson was down after deflecting a ball.

Swinson had a great outing, making eight saves in the winning effort.

UM had 12 shots, while the Wildcats had 13.

The Hurricanes are back in action Sunday at Noon traveling to face Seton Hall in South Orange, N.J.
