Hurricanes Return To Practice Field

Oct. 11, 2000

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – The Miami Hurricanes (No. 4 AP/No. 6 ESPN/USA Today) returned to the practice field Wednesday afternoon for the first time since their victory over Florida State. The Hurricanes worked out for an hour and 20 minutes in shoulder pads and shorts (“shells”) minus a handful of notable players while welcoming the return of one starter from injuries.

“We went through a pretty basic session today after three days off,” said UM head coach Butch Davis. “Our coaches spent the last few days recruiting and the players took some time off. This is probably the most welcome off week I can recall in my six years as a head coach. We have a number of players who need to recuperate from injuries.”

On the injury front, defensive lineman Damione Lewis (foot), cornerback Leonard Myers (foot), tight end Jeremy Shockey (knee) and defensive lineman Jevon Rhodes (heel) sat out the practice. Defensive end Quincy Hipps (ankle) was limited in activity. But the best news of the day was the return of starting fullback Will McPartland (concussion) to activity after two weeks off from the remnants of a concussion suffered Sept. 23 against West Virginia. Doctors cleared McPartland, who underwent a battery of neurological tests last Friday, to resume full activity.

Miami, which has this Saturday off, resumes the season Saturday, October 21 at Temple in a game at Veterans Stadium in Philadephia that will be televised live by WPLG-TV Channel 10 on the BIG EAST network.

The Hurricanes continue practice Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at Greentree. All practices are closed to the public. For ticket information concerning Hurricanes football, contact the UM Ticket Office at (305) 284-2263 or 1-800-GO-CANES. Tickets may also be ordered online at www.hurricanesports.com.
