Hurricanes Practice In Torrential Rainstorm

Oct. 3, 2000

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – The Hurricanes of Miami (No. 7 AP/No. 8 ESPN/USA Today) began full-scale practices for their clash with top-ranked Florida State (No. 1 AP/No. 2 ESPN/USA Today) with a workout amidst torrential rains on the Greentree Practice Field.

“Other than one segment, we did everything we scripted (for practice),” said head coach Butch Davis. “Actually, this may have helped us for Saturday. There’s supposedly a 50 percent chance of rain for Saturday. It’s the first time all year we really stuck it out through the rain until the lightning came.”

Miami practiced for almost two hours before lightning in the area forced the team off the field. Two defensive starters, defensive lineman Damione Lewis and cornerback Leonard Myers, missed practice with foot injuries. Their status for Saturday’s game remains in doubt.

The Hurricanes continue practice Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at Greentree. All practices are closed to the public. For ticket information concerning Hurricanes football, contact the UM Ticket Office at (305) 284-2263 or 1-800-GO-CANES. Tickets may also be ordered online at www.hurricanesports.com.
