Hurricanes Host CanesFest 2000

July 29, 2000

Ft. Lauderdale, FL – Head coach Butch Davis and members of the University of Miami football team took part in CanesFest 2000 Saturday afternoon at the Broward County Convention Center in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

The event, which was hosted by the Broward County chapter of the Hurricane Club, was attended by an estimated 5,000 fans and featured interactive games for kids, player autographs sessions, player contests, auction items, Sebastian the Ibis, and the University of Miami Cheerleaders.

“On behalf of the team and the coaching staff I want to personally thank all the fans that attended,” said Davis. “This was a tremendous crowd. It was a great way to kick off the 2000 season and I know everyone associated with the program appreciates their support.”

“This was a wonderful event,” said senior running back James Jackson. “It feels great to be able to interact with our fans and let them know how much we appreciate their support.”

“I thought things went really well today,” said sophomore quarterback Ken Dorsey. “The turnout was great and I think it was a lot fun for both the players and the fans.”

The Palm Beach County chapter of the Hurricane Club will hosts its annual football kick-off event on Sunday, July 30th from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the South Florida Fairgrounds. Admission is free.

Miami kicks off the 2000 season on August 31 against McNeese State at the Orange Bowl. For ticket information contact the Hurricane Ticket Office at (305) 284-CANES in Dade or 1-800-GO-CANES.
