Coral Gables, FL – The University of Miami women’s track and field team has qualified six athletes for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships being held May 31-June 3 in Durham, NC.
Leading the Miami contingent will be junior Wyllesheia Myrick (Miami Northwestern). The 2000 United States Track Coaches Association South Region Women’s Outdoor Athlete of the Year, qualified in both the 100-meters and 200-meters, and will also anchor the Hurricanes’ sixth ranked 4×400-meter relay.
Myrick, one of nine finalists for the National Athlete of the Year Award, enters the championships ranked 10th in the nation in both the 100-meters and 200-meters.
Joining Myrick on the relay will be sophomore Jenise Winston (League City, TX) and freshmen Patricia Pearson (Jacksonville, FL) and Saraque Whittaker (Ft. Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas).
All-American Kareen Clarke (Lithonic, GA) will represent UM in the triple jump. Clarke ranks third in the nation and is a solid threat to bring Miami its first national championship in a field event.
The Hurricanes qualified two runners in the 800-meters with All-American Natalie Watson (Coral Springs) and Pearson making the 20-runner field.
