Hurricane Freshmen Star At FSU Quad Meet

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The University of Miami won three events and set two school records at the United States Coaches Association Quad-Meet hosted by Florida State University in Tallahassee, FL.
Two of the winning performances were put in by freshman as Gina Harris (Philadelphia, PA) won the long jump with a leap of 6.21 meters (20-04.50) while Adrienne Moss (Miami Southridge) took first in the shot put with a throw of 14.53 meters (47-08).
Harris’ leap is the top jump by a Hurricane this season and provisionally qualifies her for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Durham, NC (May 31-June 5).Another Hurricane freshman to stand out wasPatricia Pearson (Jacksonville, FL) who provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 800-meters. Pearson took second in the event with a time of 2:06.92.
Suzette Rose (Algonquin, IL), also a freshman, set the school record in the pole vault (3.17 meters) despite only competing in the event for the second time.
All-American Kareen Clarke (Lithonic, GA) was also victorious. Clarke won the triple jump with a leap of 12.53 meters (41-01.50). Clarke currently ranks second in the nation in the triple jump.
Another Hurricane All-American, Natalie Watson (Coral Springs), set the school record in the 1,500-meters (4:29.62).
The Hurricanes return to action when they face Florida International in a dual meet on April 21 beginning at 3 p.m. at Cobb Stadium in Coral Gables.
