Women's Track Cracks Top 25

CORAL GABLES, FL– The University of Miami women’s track team cracked the Top 25 for the first time, this season, at No. 19, while junior Wyllesheia Myrick’s time of 23.69 in the 200-meter dash ranks as the second fastest time in the nation this year.
Miami, which is coming off a third-place finish at the 2000 BIG EAST Indoor Track & Field Championships, has several women ranked among the nations elite. Along with Myrick’s top time in the 200-meter, she also ranks 27th in the 60-meter (7.44). Sophomore Kareen Clarke has the fifth best triple jump in the nation, with a distance of 13.19m (43-03.25). Accompanying Myrick and Clarke are junior Natalie Watson and senior Danika Dodds, who rank 10th and 25th in the 800-meters, with times of 2:08.47 and 2:09.97, respectively.
The Hurricanes 4×400-meter relay team, featuring Myrick, freshman Saraque Whittaker, freshman Patricia Pearson, and sophomore Jenise Winston, has also become one of the nations best, posting the 16th fastest time this year at 3:41.21.
In addition to having some of the country’s top marks, two UM women have automatically qualified for the 2000 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships. Myrick’s automatically qualified with her time of 23.69 in the 200-meter dash, while Clarke’s jump of 13.19m (43-03.25) automatically qualified her in the triple jump
The Hurricane women return to action at the USA Indoor Championships on March 3-4, in Atlanta, GA.
