Hurricane Women Fall to Georgetown

CORAL GABLES, FL – The University of Miami women’s basketball team (8-7, 2-2 BIG EAST) suffered a, 63-61, loss to Georgetown (9-7, 2-3 BIG EAST) last night at the Knights Sports Complex on the Coral Gables campus.
The Hoyas led for much of the first half and took a, 33-32, lead into halftime. The ‘Canes responded early in the second stanza to knot the score at 37 apiece at the 17:45 mark. There were three lead changes before the ‘Canes took a two-point lead on a made layup by senior Gina Graziani with just under 10 minutes to play. UM held onto the lead until GU’s Porshia Jones hit a three-pointer at the 4:49 mark to give the Hoyas the lead (55-54). Georgetown maintained the lead for the rest of the contest.
Georgetown was led by Katie Smrcka-Duffy’s 16 points. Jones and Nathalie Bourdereau followed with 10.
Freshman Alicia Hartlaub managed her fourth double-double of the year with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Graziani, Camilla Osth and Amanda Papuga joined Hartlaub in double figures with 10 markers apiece.
UM concludes a three-game homestand on Saturday, January 22 at 2 p.m. when they host No. 5/6 Notre Dame.
