Canes Hold Turkey Day Workout

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami football team (6-4, 4-1 BIG EAST)held a two-hour workout in helmet, shoulder pads and shorts on Thursdaymorning at the Greentree Practice Facility. With the practice, theHurricanes continued its game-week preparations for this Saturday’s gamewith Syracuse (6-4, 3-3 BIG EAST) at the Orange Bowl. Following the practice, Head Coach Butch Davis was pleased with the team’sThanksgiving morning workout. The ‘Canes scrimmaged 11-on-11 and 9-on-9before working on the two-minute drill and the kicking game.

“Today went very well,” said Davis. “We continued to finalize thefiner points of the game plan and as usual for a Thursday worked on specialteams. Syracuse forces us to prepare for a lot of different possibilitiesin all three phases.”

Sophomore running back Najeh Davenport and senior linebacker MichaelSmith are both expected to be out for the year with right knee injuries.Sophomore quarterback Kenny Kelly (sprained MCL in left knee) will not playvs. Syracuse, but is week-to-week thereafter. Senior offensive tackleRobert Hall (sprained right ankle) is not expected to play vs. Syracuse.Junior fullback Will McPartland (concussion) has been cleared to play vs.Syracuse after missing the Rutgers game. Junior running back JamesJackson’s (right knee sprain) status will be a game-time decision. Therewere no new injuries to report.

‘CANES DELIVER THANKSGIVING DINNERS: The University of Miami football team,Cheerleaders, Sunsations and Sebastian the Ibis distributed 75 Thanksgivingdinners this week to eight Miami area shelters. The dinners were providedcompliments of Sysco Food Products. This marked the fifth consecutive yearthe Hurricanes have reached out to the community during Thanksgiving. Sincethe program began in 1995, the Hurricanes have distributed over 350Thanksgiving dinners to community shelters.
