Cross Country Women 10th At Big East Championships

BRONX, NY – The University of Miami women’s cross country teamfinished 10th while the Hurricane men’s team placed 11th at the 1999 BIGEAST Cross Country Championships held at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, NY.The men’s race was 8,000-meters while the women’s course measured5,000-meters.
Notre Dame (43 points) captured their second men’s title in the lastthree seasons while Georgetown (41 points) won its second women’s crown.
The Miami women were led by junior Shannon Sarabyn (Centreville, VA)who finished 44th in a time of 19:06. Overall the Hurricanes had fourrunners place in the top-100 in garnering 313 points. Joining Sarabyn in thetop-100 were sophomore Jennifer Geroux (Balto, MD) who took 70th (19:42),senior Leatrice Shaw (Philadelphia, PA) who placed 84th (20:09) and juniorNatalie Watson (Clarendon, Jamaica) who finished 96th (20:36).
The Hurricane men (314 points) were led by senior Nick Gramsky(Chesapeake Beach, MD), the team’s top finisher in every event this season,who finished 46th in a time of 26:19.
Other strong UM performances included sophomore Jeff Gaulrapp(Baldwinsville, NY) who finished 63rd (26:52) and senior Greg Bott (CoralGables, FL) who took 68th (27:10).
Miami returns to action on Nov. 13 with the NCAA DistrictChampionships in Auburn, AL.
