Women's Cross Country Places Sixth At State Championships

TAMPA, Fla. – Sophomore Jennifer Geroux (Balto, MD) finished 29th tolead the University of Miami women’s cross country team to a sixth-placefinish at the Florida Intercollegiate Cross Country Championships in Tampa,FL.

Miami had all five runners finish in the top 80 in registering 251points. Host South Florida (50 points) took five of the top 18 positions inwinning the event.

Geroux, who has been the top finisher in Miami’s last two meets,completed the 5,000-meter course in a time of 19:02.47. South Florida’sAdrea Dempsey (17:47.75) won the individual championship.

Other runners to score for Miami included junior Shannon Sarabyn(36th, 19:14.50), junior Natalie Watson (52nd, 19:37.89), senior LeatriceShaw (72nd, 20:07.87) and freshman Carolina Zavala (91st, 20:44.40).

The Hurricanes returns to action on Oct. 29 when they travel to theBronx, NY for the BIG EAST Championships.
