McCray Takes Fifth at USA Championships

EUGENE, Ore. – Six-timeUniversity of Miami All-America Yolanda McCray(Miami Southridge) finished fifth in the 100-meter hurdles with a wind-aidedtime of 12.77 at the USA Track and Field Championships in Eugene, OR.

Two-time Olympic gold medallistGail Devers (12.54) won the eventfor the third time of her career. Miesha McKelvy (12.67) was secondwithAndria King (12.73) taking third. The top three finishers qualify fortheWorld Track and Field Championships, August 21-29, in Sevilla, Spain.

McCray, the 1999 NCAA Championin the 100-hurdles, broke her own UMrecord with a time of 12.78 in the semifinals. McCray’s time was thesecondfastest qualifying time and propelled her to the USA Track and FieldChampionship final for the second time of her career. McCray also reachedthe 100-hurdle final in 1997.

McCray, who earlier thisyear finished third at the NCAA IndoorChampionships in the 60-meter hurdles, joined Andria King (GeorgiaTech) asthe only two athletes in the nation to reach the hurdle finals at theNCAAIndoor Championships, NCAA Outdoor Championships and USA Track andFieldChampionships.

McCray will return to competitionnext month when she represents theUnited States in the 100-hurdles at the World University Games, July9-13,in Palma de Mallorca, Spain.
