Nanda Alves - Women's Tennis - University of Miami Athletics

Alves joins the Miami coaching staff after serving a six-year stint at Barry University as the associate head coach. Alves helped lead the Bucs to four DII national championships and six NCAA tournament appearances. She was named the 2021 ITA South Region Assistant Coach of the Year, coached three National Players of the Year and helped Barry earn 19 All-America honors.

Prior to moving to Florida, Alves spent two seasons as the assistant coach at UC-Santa Barbara and helped lead the Gauchos to a 29-23 mark, including a 14-2 mark in the Big West. The Gauchos won the 2018 Big West regular season for the first time in school history.

She started her coaching career as a volunteer assistant in 2015 at Texas A&M. That season, the Aggies were ranked as high as No. 10 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. The team finished 17-6 and notched a 4-4 mark against top 10 opponents.

As a player, Alves won 21 professional singles titles and 57 doubles titles. She competed in multiple qualifying rounds in singles and doubles at all four Grand Slams, including reaching the 2005 Australian Open main draw.

In addition to competing on the WTA Tour, Alves represented Brazil in the Federation Cup in singles and doubles from 2000 to 2011. Additionally, she competed in the 2003 Pan American Games, German Bundesliga and Brazilian Intercity Team Annual tournaments. She earned the Brazilian Tennis Federation honor for Best Women’s Player in 2004, 2005 and 2007, as well as the Heart Award at the 2010 Fed Cup.

Alves possesses a BA in business administration from Universidade do Sul de Santa Catarina Florianopolis in Brazil, which she earned in 2014.
