MIAMI HURRICANES FOOTBALL GAME NOTES

STREAKS CONTINUE
Tonight’s victory extends the Hurricane’s nation-leading win streak to 20 games dating back to Sept. 23, 2000, when they lost to Washington… Wins at the Orange Bowl also extends to 16 straight, Miami’s longest home win streak since its NCAA-record 58-game win streak from 1985-94 and currently second in the NCAA since Oklahoma lost earlier today to Oklahoma State ending their 19-game win streak.

FIRST HALF DOMINATION
Tonight’s game is the 6th of the season Miami has held its opponent scoreless in the first two quarters, last week the Hurricanes jumped out to a 24-0 halftime lead against Syracuse. In the past three games, UM has outscored opponents 96-0 in the first half.

PICKING OFF PICKETT
The six interceptions by the Hurricanes defense is the most in a game this season, the previous record was four picks in both the Florida State and West Virginia games. The most-ever is seven interceptions in a game, which has occurred three times (vs. Florida, 1978, vs. Georgetown, 1950, and vs. Charleston Coast Guard, 1943)…This is the 26th consecutive game in which the Hurricanes have had an interception…

NON-OFFENSIVE SCORING CONTINUES
This is the seventh consecutive game, 10th of the season, when there has been a non-offensive score by the Hurricanes.

PILING ON THE POINTS
The 37 points scored by Miami in the first half is the most scored in the first half this season…This was the first time the Hurricanes have scored 50 points or more in back-to-back games (59 vs. Syracuse)…In the past two games, Miami has scored a total of 124, breaking the 1933 record of 119 points scored in back-to-back games against Piedmont (71-6) and Bowden (48-0)…Miami set an NCAA record by scoring the most points in back-to-back games against ranked opponents.

PLAYER NOTES:

SENIORS SHINE IN LAST HOME GAME
In their last game at the Orange Bowl, seniors strutted their stuff for friends and family – Senior linebacker Chris Campbell recorded his first interception of the season and second of his career… running back Najeh Davenport scored his fourth and fifth touchdowns of the season (two receiving, three rushing)…free safety James Lewis recorded his third interception of the season in the third quarter…Markese Fitzgerald grabbed his second interception of the season.

HEISMAN HOPEFUL MARCHES ON
With 189 passing yards, junior quarterback Ken Dorsey moved into third place all-time in total offense with 5,922 yards passing Vinny Testaverde (1982-86) who had 5,738 total offensive yards.

With 14 completions in the game, Dorsey moved up the all-time UM completions list into fourth place with 425, surpassing Craig Erickson who had 420 in his career.

PORTIS REACHES 1,000 YARDS FOR THE SEASON
With his 105-yard rushing performance, junior running back Clinton Portis became the sixth player at UM to surpass the 1,000-yard plateau. The most rushing yards in a single season was by Edgerrin James’ 1,416 yards in 1998…He also recorded his 6th 100+ yard rushing game of season, 13th of his career.

THREE SCORES FOR PORTIS
Clinton Portis put the Hurricanes on the board three times in the first half with his team-leading 8th and 9th rushing touchdowns (21 rushing TDs for his career) of the season and his first on the receiving end (third receiving TD of career).

MAGNIFICENT MCDOUGLE
Junior defensive end Jerome McDougle recorded his fourth sack of the season…He also intercepted Pickett in the second quarter and returned it 14 yards for his first career touchdown and recovered a fumble in the third quarter.

JONATHAN VILMA
Sophomore linebacker Jonathan Vilma recorded his first interception of his career during the first quarter returning it 16-yards leading to the Hurricanes’ first score.

SACK ATTACK CONTINUES
After missing three games with a sprained knee, Andrew Williams recorded a sack in the second quarter, his fourth of the season…William Joseph recorded his 8th and 9th sacks of the season taking down Pickett late in the second quarter…The Hurricanes have recorded 32 sacks on the season.

KELLEN WINSLOW
True freshman Kellen Winslow recorded the Hurricanes’ first safety since Sept. 30, 2000 vs. Rutgers and first of his career.

ANDRE JOHNSON
The sophomore wide receiver became Ken Dorsey’s leading TD target among current players (11) with their third quarter touchdown connection, Johnson’s 10th TD reception of the season… All-time, Dorsey’s top touchdown target was Reggie Wayne with 12 TD receptions.

OTHER NOTES
Junior Todd Sievers became the second kicker in UM history to record 100 points in a season, Carlos Huerta did it three consecutive seasons (1988-90)… …Freshman running back Frank Gore recorded his fifth rushing touchdown of the season…Alex Rodriguez and former Hurricanes Cortez Kennedy, Bubba Franks, Santana Moss, and Brian and Bennie Blades were on-hand to cheer on Miami…Miami won the coin toss and deferred to the second half…Tonight’s attendance was 78,114.
