Hurricanes Return to Cobb Stadium to Face Ole Miss

CORAL GABLES – The University of Miami women’s soccer team (4-3-0) will host the Ole Miss Rebels (5-1-0) Friday night at Cobb Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
The Hurricanes are returning to their home field after a trip out west, in which they participated in the Portland Nike Invitational. In its two games, Miami defeated the No. 22 Washington Huskies on a late goal from sophomore Ashlee Burt, then fell to the nation’s top-ranked team – the Portland Pilots, 2-0.
For her performance, junior Brittney Macdonald was named the invitational’s most outstanding defensive performer.
Ole Miss comes into this match on a five-game win streak and has outscored its opponents 22-0 in that span, which included a 1-0 win over No. 24 Memphis. Taylor Cunningham leads all scorers for the Rebels with five goals and an assist for 11 points on the season.
Miami is led offensively so far this season by freshman Kate Howarth, who has three goals – all coming in a win over Ball State. Junior Brittney Steinbruch is second on the team with four points, scoring one goal and adding two assists. Defensively, sophomore goalkeeper Vikki Alonzo is only one shutout shy of tying the Hurricanes all-time shutout mark with 14.
Following Friday’s match with the Ole Miss, Miami will travel to Ann Arbor, Mich. to face another tough opponent in the Michigan Wolverines, Sunday at 2 p.m. EST
Tickets will be on sale Friday evening at the Cobb Stadium gate at $5 for adults and $3 for children.
