Antoine Allen Joins Hurricanes' 2009 Signing Class

April 22, 2009

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Head men’s basketball coach Frank Haith announced the signing of 6-2 combo guard Antoine Allen (Baltimore, Md.) to a National Letter of Intent to play men’s basketball for the University of Miami.

Ā

Allen, who selected the Hurricanes over schools such as Providence and Florida State, joins ESPNU 100 picks Durand Scott (New York, N.Y.), Garrius Adams (Apex, N.C.) and Donnavan Kirk (Detroit, Mich.) in Miami’s 2009 class – ranked No. 16 by ESPN.

Ā

“Antoine is going to be a great asset for our ball club,” said Haith. “He is a tough, hard-nosed athlete that will add depth to this team. He has strong ball-handling skills and plays at both the one and two guard positions.”Ā

Ā

A 6-2, 183-pound combo guard, Allen averaged 20 points, six assists and five rebounds playing prep basketball at Mississippi Elite Christian Academy in 2008-09. Prior to that, the Baltimore Sun First Team All-Metro honoree led Lake Clifton High School to a 25-2 record and to both the Baltimore City and Class 3A North regional championships as a high school senior, averaging 16 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals per game.

Ā

Allen also played AAU basketball for Cecil Kirk – the same Baltimore-based program that produced two-time First Team All-ACC selection Jack McClinton for the Hurricanes.

Ā

Also eligible for Miami in 2009-10 will be sophomore transfer Malcolm Grant (Brooklyn, N.Y.), a 6-1 point guard who sat out this season per NCAA rules after appearing in 29 games for Villanova in 2007-08.
