Oct. 15, 2002

Providence, R.I. (BIG EAST) – Two Miami Hurricanes – senior quarterback Ken Dorsey and junior linebacker Jonathan Vilma – have been named BIG EAST Players of the Week, the league announced.

Dorsey shared the Offensive Player of the Week award with Temple quarterback Mike McGann while the Owls’ Mike Frost was named Special Teams Player of the Week.

Dorsey (Orinda, Calif.) led Miami on two clutch drives as the Hurricanes erased a 13-point fourth quarter deficit en route to a 28-27 victory over Florida State. The senior quarterback threw for 362 yards, matching his career high set versus Nebraska in the 2002 Rose Bowl. He completed 20-of-45 passes for two touchdowns, leading the ‘Canes on scoring drives of 70 and 79 yards in the final quarter to take the lead. This is the fifth time in Dorsey’s career he has won weekly offensive honors.

Vilma (Coral Gables, Fla.) led the Hurricane defense in the win over Florida State. The junior linebacker finished with a career-high 15 tackles, including six solo. He also had one tackle for loss and one pass break-up. It was the second time in the last three weeks Vilma has had double-figures in tackles and sixth time in his career.
