Len Elmore To Speak At Basketball Banquet on April 18

Coral Gables, FL (www.hurricanesports.com) – ESPN College Basketball Analyst Len Elmore will be the keynote speaker at the University of Miami Men’s Basketball Awards Banquet on April 18, 2001 at the Biscayne Bay Marriott in Miami, FL.

Elmore, a 10-year NBA veteran, returned to ESPN as a college basketball analyst prior to the 1997 season. He previously was with the network for the 1991 and 1992 campaigns.

Elmore also worked as an analyst for CBS from 1987-90 and for Jefferson-Pilot/Raycom Sports from 1986-90. He has also been a monthly sports commentator for National Public Radio’s “Morning Edition,” and has written and published numerous newspaper and magazine opinions regarding business, social and other issues in sports.

A 1974 Maryland graduate, where he was a three-time All-ACC performer, Elmore is still generally regarded as one of the best players in the ACC history. He was the recipient of the school’s Citizenship Award as a senior and was a first round draft pick of both the NBA’s Washington Bullets and the ABA’s Indiana Pacers. He spent 10 seasons in the professional ranks including two with the ABA Pacers (1975-76) followed by eight seasons in the NBA with the Pacers (1977-79), Kansas City Kings (1980), Milwaukee Bucks (1981), New Jersey Nets (1981-83) and New York Knicks (1984).

Following his playing career, Elmore attended Harvard Law School, graduating in 1987. He began his law career as an Assistant District Attorney in Brooklyn, N.Y. He then founded and managed Precept Sports & Entertainment, Inc., a sports management and marketing company that specialized in representing professional athletes in contract negotiations and endorsement opportunities, as well as consulting with corporations in sports-related marketing and charitable giving. He has since sold this business and recently began a private general law practice.

Elmore currently serves on the University of Maryland Foundation Board of Directors and the University of Maryland at College Park Board of Visitors. He was also appointed by the Governor to the state of Maryland’s Tourism and Development Board.
