Kate Howarth named Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week

Freshman soccer player Kate Howarth has been named the Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending August 30.

In only her third collegiate game, Howarth tallied a hat trick in the Hurricanes 5-1 win over Ball State Friday,August 28. The Grand Blanc, Mich. native become the first Miami player to record a hat trick since September of 2007, when then freshmen Brittney Steinbruch and Lauren Singer accomplished the feat in an 8-0 win over Alabama A&M.

After starting the first two games of the season, Howarth came off the bench against Ball State and responded with the three goal effort. Also, for her outstanding performance, the freshman was named to the first TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week of the 2009 season.
