UM Sponsors 'Join A Team, Not a Gang' Program

Coral Gables, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) — – Since its inception in 1987, the Miami-Dade Police Department’s “Join A Team, Not A Gang” program has educated thousands of children about the dangers of gang involvement.

The University of Miami and Florida Power and Light are sponsors of the program. This program includes educational presentations as well as field trips to UM athletic practices and games.

On Tuesday, September 17, 2002, six children were taken to UM by police officers to tour the athletic facilities, watch football practice, and meet with players and coaches.
