Cohen Named Director of Basketball Operations

Coral Gables, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami head men’s basketball coach Frank Haith announces the hiring of Darren Cohen as Director of Basketball Operations.

Cohen joins the UM staff having spent the last two years serving as the Director of Operations at Double Pump, Inc., a sports event company in Chatsworth, CA. Among his many duties at Double Pump, Cohen helped to initiate and procure the corporate sponsorship initiatives for companies like EA Sports, Gatorade, Turner Construction and Connor Sports Flooring.

From 1999 to 2001, Cohen served as the Director of Basketball Operations at the University of New Mexico. While at New Mexico, Cohen oversaw the day-to-day administrative operation of the men’s basketball program, coordinated team travel, served as camp administrator, acted as a liaison between the coaches and senior athletic department administrators and coordinated the roles of the team managers.

The Lobos went 39-27 (.590) from 1999-01, including a 21 win season in 2000-01, and reach the National Invitational Tournament both seasons, including a trip to the quarterfinals in 2001.

Cohen graduated from St. John’s University in 1998 with a Bachelor’s degree in Sport Management. While a student, Cohen served a team manager for the St. John’s men’s basketball team, and worked in the New York Knick’s organization serving as a Basketball Operations Assistant for one season (1996-97) as well as a basketball operations intern during the summers of 1993, 1994 and 1996.
