Hurricanes to Face Duke in ACC Road Match

CORAL GABLES – The University of Miami women’s soccer team will continue its Atlantic Coast Conference schedule as it travels to Durham, N.C. to take on the Duke Blue Devils, Thursday evening at 7 p.m. at Koskinen Stadium.

The Hurricanes are coming of their second ACC victory of the season, after defeating Clemson 2-0 on Oct. 9th. Brittney Steinbruch scored her third goal of the season in the opening half, while senior Beverly Goebel salted the game away with her second goal of the season in the final period.
Steinbruch now leads Miami with nine points on the season and is tied with freshman Kate Howarth for the team lead in goals and is only two goals shy of tying Britney Butcher’s school record of 29.
The shutout against Clemson was the fifth on the season for Vikki Alonzo, giving her 16 for her career. So far this season, the Carrollton, Texas native boasts a 0.96 goals against average and has made 54 saves.
A Look at the Blue Devils
Duke will be playing for its first conference victory of the season and is coming off a scoreless tie against the fifth-ranked Seminoles.
KayAnne Gummersall leads Duke with 14 points and six goals on the season. Goalkeeper Tara Campbell has recorded four shutouts this season, including in the tie against FSU on Oct. 11.
The Series
Thursday’s meeting will be the sixth between the two programs – dating back to 2004 season. The Hurricanes have yet to defeat Duke, as the Blue Devils hold a 4-0-1 all-time lead in the series. Last season at Cobb Stadium, the two teams played to a scoreless tie. Against the then No. 9 Blue Devils, Alonzo made five saves.
