No. 23 Hurricanes Put Finishing Touches On Game Plan

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The 23rd ranked University of Miami football team (3-3,1-0 BIG EAST) held a 90-minute workout in full pads on Thursday afternoon atthe Greentree Practice Facility. With the practice, the Hurricanescontinued preparation for their matchup with West Virginia (3-4, 2-1 BIGEAST) on Saturday at noon at the Orange Bowl in Miami, FL.

Following the practice, Head Coach Butch Davis stated that theHurricanes’ preparation for West Virginia is on schedule thus far.

“Just about everything today went as expected,” said Davis. “It wasthe end of a good week of practice.”

Davis addressed starting quarterback Kenny Kelly’s activity inpractice. Kelly suffered a left ankle sprain in Miami’s 31-28 win at BostonCollege on Saturday. True freshman Ken Dorsey is Kelly’s backup.

“Kenny Kelly did take some snaps today and did work in some of thedrills,” said Davis. “I think what he did today was a little bitencouraging. Kenny Dorsey did extremely well. The team has a lot ofconfidence in him (Dorsey). It will probably be a gametime decision as towhat direction we decide to go.”

Sophomore running back Najeh Davenport and senior linebacker Michael Smithare both expected to be out for the year with right knee injuries.Sophomore quarterback Kenny Kelly’s (sprained left ankle) status for theWest Virginia contest is expected to be a gameday decision. There were nonew injuries to report.

The Hurricanes will hold a closed walk-thru on Friday at the GreentreePractice Facility on the UM campus, before departing to the team hotel inthe evening.

THE ROCK COMES TO THE OB: Three-time World Wrestling Federation champion”The Rock”, a former defensive tackle at the University of Miami (1991-94),will make a pre-game appearance at Saturday’s Miami-West Virginia game atthe Orange Bowl.

The Rock, formerly known as Dwayne Johnson when he suited up for theHurricanes, will sign autographs from 10-11:30 a.m. in Touchdown Alley.Prior to the game, The Rock will be given the microphone just before the’Canes take the field to excite the fans and introduce the team in histypical WWF fashion.
